Amid protest and disorder here in New York City, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have entered into the cold city to cheers and  warm welcomes. Hundreds of people stood outside of  the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan to welcome the pregnant couple, where the top suite is around $5,000 a night.

William and Kate’s first trip to Big Apple will be for only three days but is completely action packed. Amongst a slew of private dinners the prestigious couple have a varied itinerary tomorrow that will see the Duke meet US president Barack Obama, the couple cheering along with other celebrities at an NBA basketball game and the Duchess visiting a Harlem-based organization for child development.
