by On Day 14 of Black History Month we recognize Reverend Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood.
The extremely industrious and dynamic servant of God, Johnny Ray Youngblood, began his Brooklyn journey at Bethany Baptist Church in 1973. Pastor William Augustus Jones invited Youngblood to the Bedford Stuyvesant church to serve as his assistant. After about a year, Youngblood became pastor of St. Paul Community Baptist Church. At that time, St. Paul’s was located at 1926 Prospect Place in Brownsville.
According to a New York Times article (07/10/2009) Youngblood took a congregation of 84 members and grow the church to 10,000 strong, transforming a virtually bankrupt outfit into an institution with a $6.5 million annual budget, a 180-student school and a paid staff of more than 50.

The church subsequently moved to a larger space located in East New York at 859 Hendrix Street. Youngblood is known for his men’s ministry focused on developing African American male leadership. He also birthed The MAAFA Suite: A Healing Journey.
