The former Childs restaurant building has officially reopened on the Coney Island boardwalk this past weekend. After years of being boarded up, the landmark building at W. 21st Street has transformed into a high-end food hall called Kitchen 21.
The eatery located next to the new Ford Amphitheater houses five new restaurants serving up “locally sourced” dishes and Brooklyn charm. Diners can grab sandwiches and salads at The Café, fresh seafood at the Community Clam Bar, sip on a glass of Merlot and enjoy a fancy seated dinner at the Test Kitchen. In addition, the Parachute Bar offers 32 different beers and an array of Brooklyn-themed cocktails including including Not Your Father’s Egg Cream with Sunset Park’s Industry Vodka and chocolate syrup, the Brooklyn 75 with gin by Greenpoint’s Green Hook Ginsmith, and the Coney Island Fizz with vodka, saint germain, and lime, details Brooklyn Paper.

“I sampled some incredibly delicious food that I can’t believe is in Coney Island,” Dick Zigun, the unofficial mayor of Coney Island told the paper. “I’m in marvel that it has the vintage authenticity of a place like Gargiulo’s that has been there for 100 years when it’s been open for a couple of days.”
In anticipation of Memorial Day weekend and 70 degree weather and clear skies, a stop by Coney Island and Kitchen 21 sounds perfect.
