As if this ride couldn’t get any more scarier! Wooden roller coasters are always the toughest to go on as you always think intensely about safety precautions. Well one of the oldest Brooklyn staples is getting re-vamped! Coney Island’s legendary 87-year-old Cyclone roller coaster will keep dare devils screaming this summer with 950 feet of newly laid wooden tracks. The repairs have been set and are ready for opening day on Sunday April 13th, 2014.
The added wood is anticipated to make the roller coaster faster and more enjoyable. This is not it. Coney Island plans over the next 15 years to do a complete overhaul on the Cyclone. Not everyone is happy about these renovations. Some traditionalists believe that the old wood gives it a shaky and intense energy that delights thrill seekers which adds to the whole experience. So no one cares about safety here? Oh, Ok!
Coney Island management is excited to open up again for the new season on Sunday. They expect drones of people to come and try out the newly renovated roller coster and the updated Luna Park.
Opening Day begins with “Noise Fest” from 2-5pm to wake up everyone in Coney Island with music and shows.
