This has to be something we knew for a long time, right? Coney Island  and Manhattan beaches are two of five public beaches across New York City that have been prompted for swimmers to avoid.

Coney Island Beach

In a recent advisory from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, warned beach fans not to swim at Coney Island and Manhattan beaches in Brooklyn amongst three others located in Staten Island. Due to sewage overflow and recent heavy rains an agency spokesperson stated, “Swimming and wading is not recommended at this time, especially for children, pregnant women, and the chronically ill”.

The Department of Health is very concerned with the health of people that are fans of these beaches. (As they should be.) Swimming in contaminated waters can cause vomiting, diarrhea, problems with breathing as well as many other infections.

Best bet…STAY OUT OF THE WATER, at-least these beaches, for now.
