No more fumbling for change, running out of meetings and events, as a new method to pay parking meters on city streets has rolled out in Brooklyn.

The ParkNYC app allows motorist to use their smartphones to pay for parking, check heck how much time remains on the meter, receive notifications when the time is about to expire and extend their parking time without having to walk to their vehicles. Drivers who don’t use all the time they’ve paid for will be able to get a partial refund.

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) launched ParkNYC last December in Midtown Manhattan. The program went live in Brooklyn about two weeks ago and is also available in parts of the Bronx and Staten Island.  ParkNYC is expected to hit Queens sometime this summer.

Drivers interested in the program can download the app, sign up with their credit card and license plate number, then punch in the muni-meter number to pay with a click. If not, yes, you can still pay the old fashion way — with quarters.
