As we seem to be losing some major historic staples in Brooklyn, Barclays Center and LIU have collaborated to save one.
Barclays Center affiliate Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment has formed an alliance with LIU Brooklyn in which it will begin bringing entertainment to the university’s historic Brooklyn Paramount Theatre. With the focus on booking emerging talent, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment will program a variety of events, including music, comedy, and boxing.
The programming will return the LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theatre to its original roots as an active entertainment venue for the first time in over 50 years. The historic theatre, originally built in 1928 as a movie palace, hosted renowned Rock & Roll and jazz shows featuring major artists including Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.
“There’s enormous potential with the LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theatre,” said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. “We are excited to turn the lights back on and to see the evolvement of the venue, first by reintroducing the building to the entertainment industry. We believe there’s a big untapped future at the LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theatre.”

The partnership will create unique part-time job opportunities for LIU students, giving them a chance to gain valuable experience.
“As we continue to grow, LIU is fully committed to delivering a unique education that combines rigor in the classroom with engagement beyond our walls,” said LIU President Kimberly Cline. “Working hand-in-hand with Barclays Center’s affiliate Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, we will create new opportunities for our students and alumni as part of this exciting new endeavor.”
