As I sit in Not Ray’s Pizza in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn, I am a little in awe of this 26 year old woman’s accomplishments. In walks this bubbly and bold spirit of a young vibrant woman who knows what she wants! I’m greeted with a smile and a hug as if we have known each other for years. You can tell right away that she is a gem and that her ultimate destiny is just beginning! “Imagine creating a bucket list and crossing half of it off in just a year” she states with a gigantic smile! Khadija is just getting started!

Q: What part of Brooklyn were you raised?

A: I was born in Trinidad and was raised in Bed-Stuy. What is it, Stuyvesant Heights now? Fancy! (little laughter)

Q: How was it performing on the Diamonds World Tour?

A: It was a very intimate concert, not as live and upbeat as the Loud Tour  but still a wonderful experience. So many people love the Unapologetic album as a whole making the tour so successful. Rihanna had us perform with her to give the stage life and a different dynamic.

Q: Who are some of the people you met on your journey who have influenced you?

A: Most definitely Danielle Polanco. She and I went to high school together and I would just always watch her dance. She would always tell me “Girl, go after what you want. Being from New York, we have it in us!”  I remember how she started dancing for Joe (R&B artist), and I was like WOW, you can do that? Also meeting Frank Gatson, Beyonce’s choreographer, he had a way of talking to us during auditions and saying, “We know if you have it by the way you walk across the floor, we know if you have it by the delivery of the first movement!” His words prepared me for when I went to other auditions, what they might be looking for, I was always more aware.” I also had a number of people just saying there was something about me, just get out there and work!

Q: Can you tell us one of your most embarrassing moments?

A: Yes! I fell during Rihanna’s performance of “Pour It Up” in Seattle. (laughter) At this point there were only Rihanna and two dancers, and I was one of the two. Let me tell you about that day. We were shooting a commercial for NBA playoff time, they had us shooting it over and over and over. All this on the same day as the show. So by the time the show came my legs were so fatigued, I went to do one step and just collapsed. I got up so quick to continue dancing. I was like, wait did that just happen?

Q: Do you think anyone noticed?

A: To be honest I don’t know. But one person tweeted me and said “Did you fall?” I was like, Yeah….Yeah that happened!

Q: What is next for Khadija?

A: I definitely want to get into commercial modeling. You see the girls who do Colgate and Target commercials, Yeah I want to do that! I want to spice up L.A. !!

Khadija now resides in LA. She moved there a month before booking the Loud Tour with Rihanna! She knew what she wanted and she went out for it! She described how New York prepared her for the fight she had to win in LA.  Growing up in Brooklyn trained her to have an amazing work ethic while living in Los Angeles.

Q: Complete this “Dear Brooklyn…………….Love Khadija”

A: Dear Brooklyn Thank You for all the hardships! You have taught me some of the greatest lessons and I am so grateful. For all the young people that are growing up here, this is not the end, there is so much more to the world and so many more opportunities, don’t let this be the period, this is only the comma!
