There’s lots to eat and drink in Red Hook, but on Saturday night a crowd took a breather to dance at Coffey Park. It was a nice way to ease into the evening after a hot summer Saturday.

First there was a master dance class taught by Calvin Wiley, founder and artist director of Calvin Wiley Dance Theater and a world-renowned fitness instructor. We shook it out to Rihanna and Barry White while Wiley led the class with a dynamic, fun energy that attracted a front row crowd of enthusiastic moms. It was a mix of hip-hop and aerobics that provided a fun way to let off some steam and get a workout.

After participants got a taste of Wiley’s style, there was a performance of beautiful and engaging contemporary dance from Robert Mark Dance, Zest Collective and Kyle Marshall Choreography. I really give these performers credit for keeping their cool while performing some unique, emotive and elaborate moves on a stage in a park.
