It’s only a few more days and a couple more hours until the entire world welcomes 2016; moving us into everything new and leaving behind the past. With that being said, we should always take a step back and re-evaluate everything that definitely needs to stay in 2015.

Brooklyn has changed a bit throughout 2015 but it also has picked up a few habits that I personally would like to see left behind. Lets keep the beautiful culture but leave these few things in 2015.

Please!

10 Things Brooklynites Need To Leave Behind In 2015

1. Neighborhood Stereotypes

Like c’mon guys (journalists cough, cough) Williamsburg has more of a Hasidic jewish community than hipsters, but they’ll never tell you that. And although gentrification is really real in Bed-Stuy, there’s still a large African-American community who continue to hold onto their “million-dollar” brownstones.

2. The idea of Brooklyn had nothing before gentrification

Brooklyn was always the birthplace of New York’s outstanding culture. It didn’t take the Barclays Center, a few hipsters, and a few coffee shops and bars to make Brooklyn the place to be. Brooklyn always had that “IT” factor.

3. Saying Brooklyn is the new Manhattan

Sure, there are a number of tall buildings, condos and chain stores popping up everywhere in our perfect little borough but Brooklyn will never be Manhattan. I say that with tons of passion in my heart.

4. Coffee shop offices

Everyone loves FREE wifi, but setting up shop in your local coffee store is becoming outrageous. I have personally witnessed people stand and wait for a seat to drink their coffee and eat their scone for over an hour. Let’s try to keep the blogging and internet searching to an hour max, make room for people who really want to eat and sip their cappuccino. May I suggest using a co-working space if needed.

5. New neighbors not acknowledging the old residents

Hello! Good Morning! While we may never say “Welcome to the neighborhood” we do expect you to at least say Hello. We’re actually looking at you waiting for it.

6. Sidewalk crochet

The person responsible for the Eastern Parkway random sidewalk grandma art needs a long talk on Brooklyn. Were you bored? What exactly was this for?

7. Expensive ass artisnial supermarkets

$10 chocolate bars and $20 cheese in the hood? Who was responsible for the market research and what the community is really looking for?

8. The idea that we only eat Kale

Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good Kale salad and maybe a little Kale added to my smoothie but the idea that it’s the only thing that gets Brooklynites going is completely bonkers.

9. Unnecessary bike lanes

A nice bike ride in the summer seems perfect, until there is no room on the sideway for people who don’t ride bikes to actually walk.
