While school is all about teaching the students, sometimes teachers have room for improvement. One principal of a high school in Bed-Stuy is making sure her teachers are constantly learning and growing.
Regina Tottenham, principal of the Brooklyn Transition Center (P.S. 373) located at 185 Ellery Street, was awarded the Teaching Matters Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize this past Thursday. The $25,000 prize came from Teaching Matters, a non-profit that helps public school teachers develop and retain great teachers. Tottenham was one of four finalists for the prize, which each year recognizes a principal who advances teacher effectiveness in his or her school.
Tottenham, who has only been the high school’s principal since 2011, expressed the prize money will help the school further enlarge their mentoring program that pair more experience teachers with newer ones. According to WNYC, she created the mentoring program after realizing 42 percent of her teachers had less than five years professional teaching experience while the rest were almost at retirement.
It has levitra generika 25 alkaloids and multiple vitamins which are essential for good health.
“We always have to carve money out for teachers,” Tottenham told WNYC. “But to have this is just such a necessary luxury that I wish could have every year. It’s wonderful. I’m just so excited.”
