If you’re a 7th,8th or 9th grader in school with a current student ID or report card there are a few Brooklyn movie theaters that will give you a FREE ticket to see the new movie, “Selma”. Inspired  by the film’s message of resilience and hope and its historical significance, 27 African American leaders in the New York business community have come together to create a fund that will allow 27,000 of these students obtain a free ticket.
“Selma” is a historical drama written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, the first black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The award nominated movie is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King Jr. The film stars David Oyelowo as King, Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon Johnson, Common as Bevel, and Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King.
