She sits down with Alexis Coe, author of Alice+Freda Forever, to discuss her extensive research and the process of building the book’s vibrant characters.

Based on Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel, Ben and Rose are children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. Both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry. Much of this movie was filmed in Crown Heights, so look for the familiar parts.

The film returns to the Brooklyn Museum, where it originally premiered, to examine the narratives of struggle and triumph behind the creation of the Brooklyn Bridge.
