In honor of Women’s History Month, the Women’s Press Collective (WPC) presents its annual International Women’s Day Celebration Saturday, March 12th, from 11am to 4pm. This empowering and enriching event is hosted by Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church located at 85 South Oxford Street between Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street in Ft. Greene.
Each year the WPC selects an important theme for its International Women’s Day Celebration. For 2016, the focus is on “Transforming Our World The 2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development: Empower All Women and Girls.”
What is the “Agenda For Sustainable Development?” This past September at the United Nations headquarters in New York, world leaders attended the UN Sustainable Development Summit. They formally adopted an ambitious agenda with 17 goals to achieve by 2030. Among these goals are: no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, and gender equality. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace.
