The Brooklyn Nets are rumored to be considering some major adjustments.
So far this season, The Nets have already traded away a former All-Star in Andrei “AK-47” Kirilenko to the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia also received a 2020 second round draft pick and some cash from the Nets. The Nets in return received Brandon Davies, a 23 year old who plays the 4 spot.
It’s no secret the Nets are looking to dump salary in exchange for youth and a shot at Kevin Durant in 2016. Even though AK-47’s contract was worth $3.3 million this year, it saved the Nets around $12 million when luxury taxes are factored in. People like the defensive minded AK-47 and didn’t want to see him go but what’s done is done. With this first move in the books no one was prepared to hear what the Nets might do next.
This past Tuesday, more trade rumors came out from within the Brooklyn Nets organization; arguably more shocking than the trade acquisitions of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in 2013. Specifically, these trade rumors circulated around the Nets’ core and 3 former All-Stars in Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez. Yes, the Brooklyn Nets are rumored to be interested in trading 1, 2, or all 3 of them.
As the news of this latest rumor began to make its way to the media, Nets fans, other NBA teams, and the Nets players themselves, many questions started to present themselves. Questions of have the Nets given up this early on into the season, do they not believe in their core group, are they just looking to dump salary and build up high draft picks, and probably the most frequent of them all, what the hell is going on over there?
Recent observations Although the use of motor neuron buy generic cialis purchasing this disease stem cell therapy MND may be eventually possible, the general belief among scientists is that research is not yet advanced in this field.
Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez were not available to give their responses to the rumors due to illnesses and back sprains but Deron Williams was. Williams looked upbeat before yesterday’s 105-80 blowout loss to the Chicago Bulls when pressed about the question. Deron seemed to almost challenge the rumor saying that “there’s no source behind it”, it’s not something he believes and that he still has to be a Brooklyn Net until he’s something else. Indeed there is no source behind the rumor but if the rumor is in fact just something that someone made up for whatever the reason, wouldn’t someone like Head Coach Lionel Hollins, General Manager Billy King, or even majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov say something to suggest otherwise? The notion that they haven’t simply adds more weight to the fact side of this fact or fiction see-saw.
If the rumor is true, what kind of assets do you get for a Deron Williams? Does someone really want to take the $20 million+ contract of Joe Johnson knowing how awful he’s been playing? Is an unorthodox yet injury prone center like Brook Lopez someone you want to give away? If Brooklyn can make powerful, youthful, and impressive moves then the organization will look like a prophet. If not, they will look like a dysfunctional mess with no championship aspirations. Players want to believe and know that the team and organization they play for and represent will be behind them all the way. Players don’t need to have trade thoughts in their head when competing nor do they need to find out that they will be traded in this fashion.
The more it goes unaddressed, the more validity it will garner. Let’s hope whatever the Nets ultimately decide on doing, betters the organization for years and years to come.
