Pair Arrested For Forcing Teens Into Prostitution in Crown Heights

A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested on Saturday for forcing two 16-year-old girls into prostitution in Crown Heights, the New York Daily News reports.
One of the victims managed to escape from the rental building on 511 Lincoln Pace where she was being held against her will and ran home. The victim then lead authorities to were she was being held. When cops arrived they had found one other victim who told them that she had been also forced to sell her body, in addition to four children — two girls 14 and 8 and two boys 13 and 7. The children, at the time had not been considered victims, but their parents had not been home and cops are still trying to figure out their connection, if any, to the suspects.
Denina Roman, 21, and Taymel Harris, 20 were arrested on site and charged with sex trafficking, sexual misconduct, acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, unlawful imprisonment and promoting prostitution, according to reports.
According to court documents, Roman had threatened to beat the victim if she tried to leave. Both victims had been forced to strip to their underwear and pose for pictures which were then placed as ads on the website, backpage.com, a website used to advertise sexual services.
The girl who escaped was forced to have sex with approximately eight men on her first day, then 10 men each day after that. The other teen had been forced to have sex with three men.

According to reports neighbors in the building had no idea what was going on and the news of sex trafficking left them in complete shock.
“That’s terrible,” Tasha Daniely, a neighbor who lives across the hall, told the Daily News. “I wouldn’t want that to happen to nobody. I’m a female first. There’s so many crazy things going on in this world, but that’s really unusual and that’s really close.”
Both suspects are being held on $50,000 bail and are due back in court on July 21.
