Remember Notorious B.I.G’s ’97 hit, “I Got a Story to Tell,” where he rapped about sleeping with a New York Knicks player’s girlfriend and the event abruptly spiraling into a robbery once the pro-baller reached home?

For years, John Starks was said to be said person of interest until the retired player cleaned-up that rumor on an episode of ESPN’s Highly Questionable in 2014. Since then folks have been trying to solve the mystery of who that NBA player could be.

Rapper Fat Joe shined a light on a new face earlier this week on the same ESPN talk show and revealed Biggie was referring to the late Anthony Mason. After the NY rapper stated the bold revelation, a “rest in peace” followed honoring the athlete who died last year at the age of 48.

This would send many on a wondrous rampage, curious to know how Fat Joe could even speak on the subject. The “Lean Back” rapper explained both he and Biggie were very close and although he didn’t hear him directly give a name in his past days, he went on to say “That was the rumor, that was the very strong possibility rumor. It was about Anthony Mason.”

Many did their research and it’s still kind of tough to tell by some of the hints Biggie threw in the track like the 6-2 height description — Mason was listed as a 6-7. Mason, however, seemed to fit the desciption after determining his time spent with the Knicks was 1991 to 1996.

According to the lyrics of the explicit track, the incident transpired after their game against the Utah Jazz which took place November 12, 1995.

Unfortunately, both rapper and former pro ball player are deceased but this story has turned into an unsolved mystery that’s leaving fans on edge.
