A cold, frigid night in Brooklyn could not keep Nets fans away as the Philadelphia 76ers came into the Barclays Center looking for just their 3rd win on the season. Brooklyn (9-12) came in looking to end their 3 game blowout losing streak despite being down several players. The Nets bench would have to step up to get it done.
With Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic out due to injuries, a new starting lineup in Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Sergery Karasev, Mason Plumlee, and Kevin Garnett took the floor.
1st quarter action saw the 76ers take the early lead thanks to a pair of threes. The 76ers continued to hold their small lead over Brooklyn as the 1st quarter winded down. Brooklyn had great looks at open shots but turnovers would cost them points. Mason Plumlee provided a lot of dunk action as well as a 3 from Bojan Bogdanovic to give Brooklyn the lead. Both teams battled on the Brooklyn court trying to take and maintain the lead. Mason Plumlee once again provided the crowd with an incredible dunk which gave him 8 points and a 4 point Brooklyn lead until more 3’s by the 76ers ended up tying the game at 39. The quarter would end on a 76ers run that would put them up 1, 75-74 at the half.
Second half action saw Brooklyn take an 11 point lead. Brooklyn’s defense kept up and began to show its true self holding the 76ers to a dismal 8-34 in the second half. Alan Anderson exploded in the second half, dropping 12 points. Nets rookie Cory Jefferson also showed he had some hops when he delivered an emphatic dunk in the 3rd erupting the Brooklyn crowd. The 76ers remained scoreless until 6:56 seconds remained in the 4th they connected with a 3. With a 10 point lead extending to 18 on a Darius Morris dunk, Brooklyn never looked back. Nets win 88-70.
Mason Plumlee would be tonight’s highlight registering his second double double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Deron Williams also had 10 assists.
