Depending on who you ask, Deron Williams was injured in Miami on Jan. 4th or in Brooklyn on Jan. 7th. Then if you ask if his rib fracture was misdiagnosed, Deron would have a response leaning towards yes while the doctors and trainers would say no. Either way you slice it, it’s been approximately 2 weeks since Deron sustained his rib injury.
We were told on January 8th that there would be a re-evaluation on Deron in the following week but that week has come and gone. Although there weren’t any professional or scientific progress reports that week, Deron spoke to the media about still being sore, hurting to laugh and sneeze, and just about as confused about the injury as anyone else was. Deron found it hard to believe that the events in Miami and in Brooklyn were isolated events because he never had a rib injury in his life before this. So with that there is still no timetable for his return.

The Nets have already left Brooklyn and have flown to the west coast to face the Sacramento Kings this Wednesday. Today the media received more non-scientific and non-professional updates on Deron’s injury. Progress seems to have been made however, as Deron Williams returned to the court to begin shooting but only after Monday’s Nets practice session. Williams was not allowed to mimic any of his teams practice drills but it does show that his rib pain has subsided enough to get him to this juncture in his recovery.
Again, there is no timetable for his return but it seems that Williams is not far off from returning to his team which is in dire need of his services.
