Brooklyn came into tonight’s contest losing their last 6 games with a record of (16-21). They would go up against the Memphis Grizzlies (26-11) who would have a reunion of sorts with their previous coach Lionel Hollins. Brooklyn would again be without Deron Williams due to injury and Kevin Garnett is serving his 1 game suspension following Monday night’s physical incident with Dwight Howard. Could Brooklyn pull off the upset? Let’s get to it.

Memphis Grizzlies Tear Through Brooklyn Nets, Nets Fall to 16-23

1st quarter action started off as if there was a brand new, more cohesive Nets team on the floor. They were sharing the ball and finally knocking down shots they couldn’t buy in their previous 6 losses. Brooklyn would lead early 10-4. Mason Plumlee would provide several highlight dunks.  Memphis would go on a 14-2 run and capture the lead at 22-14. Grizzlies would knock down 3’s, find ways to the basket end the quarter leading 32-23.

In the 2nd Brooklyn would finally their 3 point shot and knock down 4 3’s in the quarter before regaining the lead at 38-36. Mirza Telteovic would hit 3 of his shots from downtown. Memphis would get back in the game and retake the lead by knocking down free throws and causing turnovers on the Nets. Memphis would go on a 7-0 run to end the half leading 51-45. Brooklyn won the quarter 22-19.

3rd quarter action and Memphis started off with great defense, offense, and caused more turnovers on the Nets. Memphis would break away leading 61-49 before a Brooklyn time out. Brooklyn ran out whatever offensive juice they had shooting just 29%. Halfway into the 3rd, Brooklyn only had 2 free throw attempts while Memphis had 18. Brooklyn would find themselves in a 15 point hole, 70-55, that would only get larger as the game progressed. Memphis would finish the quarter 82-65.

Brooklyn opens off the 4th with 2 consecutive turnovers. Memphis would continue to pound away in the paint outscoring the Nets 52-32 in that area. Turnovers mounted, shots weren’t falling and the Broooklyn crowd became restless. Brooklyn would go on a run but would waive the white flag early as both teams emptied out their benches. Brooklyn would lose their 7th straight game, 92-103.  Brooklyn will face off against the Washington Wizards this Friday in the nation’s capital.
