The “Make It In BK” pitch competition is back and they’re calling on women to put their start-ups to the test.

“Make It In BK” is a movement that celebrates Brooklyn entrepreneurship.

“Brooklyn is a place where leading trendsetters, makers, pioneers, builders, and entrepreneurs live, work, and create,” details their website. “Downtown Brooklyn is at the heart of that special mix of entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation,” – but I think we gathered that much already.

This year, the organization decided to focus solely on women entrepreneurs as Brooklyn boasts more female founded start-ups than any other city in the U.S.

Previous winners have gone on to do even greater things with their business. Those companies included Sightworthy — a platform where brands can shop for video content creators and editors for marketing and branding videos, that gained affiliation with Snap Inc and R/GA venture accelerator, Propel — a platform that builds software for low-income Americans, raised over $4 million this past summer and Re-Nuble — a company that uses a proprietary process to transform food waste into chemical free, organic nutrients for both soil based and hydroponic cultiva — currently operates out of Brooklyn Navy Yard’s 1776.

The winner of the competition will $5,000 and $15,000 worth of design and strategy service from boutique creative agency, Berlin Cameron. With a prestigious judging roster including Valerie Biberaj of Kate Spade & Company Foundation, Alessandra Henderson of Human Ventures, Yao Huang of The Hatchery, Jennifer Dasilva of Berlin Cameron, Ishveen Anand of OpenSponsorship, it’s no telling what new business idea will steal the cake this year.

If interested in competing, applications are accepted until October 2nd and winning applicants will be notified October 5th. The 2017 competitive event will be held October 10th at 7:30pm on the mezzanine level of City Point (Albee Square). For those of you that aren’t ready to pitch this year, that’s fine too! All are invited and welcome to attend for $10 and tickets can be purchased here.

If you can make it in Brooklyn you can make it anywhere.
