Mayor's Office Officially Announces Red Hook Ferry Service Expansion

The Mayor’s office announced on Wednesday that the Atlantic Basin in Red Hook would be the new dock for New York City’s ferry service expansion.

The dock located at the intersection of Conover Street and Pioneer Street is set to launch summer of 2017 and will service approximately 6,000 people, including families living in the nearby Red Hook Houses.

The ferry will dock at 4 other Brooklyn locations: Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, at the Brooklyn Army Terminal on the pier’s north side, and in Bay Ridge at the American Veterans Memorial Pier. The ferry will also service Queens and Rocakway and will connect both boroughs to the East Side of Manhattan. The Bronx is reported to begin service in 2018.

The city reports that it will take approximately 10 minutes to travel from Red Hook to Pier 6 then 7 minutes to travel from there to Pier 1, and another 7 more minutes to travel from Pier 1 to the ferry’s dock at Pier 11 near Wall Street in Manhattan.
