Horror Hits Brownsville in Unthinkable Triple Murder-Suicide
Terrance Briggs shot and killed his 1-year-old daughter, stepfather, half-brother and, finally, himself.

by BROWNSVILLE — Four family members were found shot to death in a Brownsville apartment early Wednesday morning.
According to law enforcement, the bodies of 57-year-old Loyed Drain, his son Loyed, 16; his step-son Terrence Briggs, 27; and Briggs’ one-year-old daughter Laylay were discovered around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning when Briggs’ mother, Patricia Green, 53, arrived home.
“She was very upset and crying. It’s a horrible scene,” a source told the NY Post of Green. “What would make anyone want to kill a 1-year-old?”
It’s believed Briggs shot his stepfather first in the bathroom, then his stepbrother in a bedroom as he played video games. He finally killed his own baby daughter in a second bedroom before killing himself, according to the Daily News. All the victims were found with bullet wounds to their heads and a .40-caliber handgun was found in one of the bedrooms.

Laylay’s mother, Olivia Callender was away on a trip when she found out about the horrific event.
According to reports Briggs had a number of domestic conflicts previously with his step-father where cops were called to the home. Neighbors say Briggs and his step-father were “always arguing.” In August 2005, he was busted for threatening his stepfather with a loaded gun, according to the Post.
The elder Drain was loved by the community.
“He was a retired transit worker, he was in the military and he was one of the sweetest guys you can ever come into contact with,” one neighbor told the Post. “He would help anybody. He would give the shirt off his back man.”
No suicide note was left behind and a clear motive still remains unclear.
