The project was approved back in 2012 by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The immediate goal for current Mayor Bill de Blasio is to make at least 200,000 affordable housing units across New York. Livonia Commons is the first phase of a three-part project that will create 800 affordable housing units. The second phase of the project will include more family sized units as well as new amenities such as grocery stores and day care centers.
