“Who let the dogs out?”

Although Brooklyn loves traveling with their four-legged friends, leaving them tied to a pole is the norm within the city. The NYC Department of Health has cracked down heavily on drinking establishments that have always prided themselves on being dog-friendly. Park Slope for Pets created a petition showing support for eliminating an outdated law that bans dogs in all  non-food drinking establishments in NYC.

To date, Park Slope for Pets has collected more than 500 signatures in support of dog-friendly establishments, and is continuously growing throughout the borough. The petition started because of a citation issued to The Gate, a neighborhood bar, by the Department of Health. Since its opening in the late 90s, The Gate has welcomed dogs and received no complaints. A recent 311 call prompted the DOH to fine The Gate as this non-food establishment is held to the same standards as food establishments.
