The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has released plans to transform Broadway Junction into a “more accessible and vibrant transit hub and economic center.” The plan falls under the East New York Neighborhood Plan, a rezoning approved by the city in 2016.

“As one of our city’s major transit hubs, Broadway Junction has the potential to be a thriving economic engine for the community,” said NYCEDC President and CEO James Patchett. “This vision provides a blueprint to improve the station’s accessibility, enhance local amenities, revitalize public spaces and foster inclusive growth in the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Council Member Rafael L. Espinal, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, and the NYCEDC released on Thursday the first step toward a reimagined Broadway Junction; Broadway Junction: A Vision for the Future. The vision is the result of a year-long public engagement process to identify community priorities and recommendations for the Broadway Junction area.

The new Broadway Junction would include improvements to the local train station, streets, sidewalks, and creating more attractive and safe open spaces. The city also looks to make Broadway Junction into a major jobs center and expand access to training and career opportunities in which existing residents and businesses benefit from first.
