53 days after ICE arrested him, Pablo Villavicencio, 35, was released after judge calls him a “model citizen.”

Villavicencio, an undocumented pizza delivery man, was making a routine delivery to Fort Hamilton Base in Bay Ridge when he was picked up by ICE on June 1. Authorities said Villavicencio’s name was run as part of a routine background check for people entering the base, revealing he was undocumented.

The native of Ecuador, who has lived in the United States for 10 years and whose wife and children are U.S. citizens was in the process of becoming a citizen when he was arrested.

On Tuesday night, Villavicencio walked out of a federal detention center in New Jersey to his wife and children after a judge ordered him free while he seeks legal immigration status.

“He has no criminal history,” Manhattan Federal Judge Paul A. Crotty wrote in court documents. “He has paid his taxes. And he has worked diligently to provide for his family.”

Villavicencio told reporters in Spanish that he was glad to be back with his family.

“I’m very happy to be free,” Villavicencio told Telemundo in Spanish after his release. “I’m happy to be reunited with my wife and children.”

Activist have held protest outside of the army base, calling for the abolishment of ICE. Local restaurants have even gone as far as boycotting delivery to the base, according to the NY Post.

“The powerful are doing what they must. The poor are suffering the most,” Crotty said, according to the NY Daily News. “Is there any concept of justice? Or are we just doing what we want?”
