Brooklyn Navy Yard is quickly expanding and thinking of new ways to get their 7,000 employees safely around the borough.
The Yard has officially launched its FREE shuttle bus service that will connect riders to about 13 subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road at Atlantic Terminal. The shuttle bus is expected to run every 10 mins during business hours and 15 thus after and will reportedly link riders A, B, C, D, F, G, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains. The “comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles” are equipped with free WiFi and a location device, giving riders the option to track the buses in real-time via the Yard’s new transportation app.
“This transportation plan will provide the Yard’s growing workforce with direct access to all corners of the city,” said Brooklyn Navy Yard President and CEO David Ehrenberg. “With our workforce set to double in the next five years, one of the Yard’s top priorities is connecting where our employees live with where they work. As the Yard grows, our transportation infrastructure will be strengthened to meet tenants’ needs.”
The Navy Yard expects to expand their independent transportation lines to aid its projected 16,000 workers and visitors by 2020.
