William Root, a Brooklyn based Industrial Designer, has created a cheaper, more durable, functional and comfortable version of the traditional model of a prosthetic leg. “Exo-Prosthetic” is a 3D printed artificial leg made from laser-sintered titanium, which uses a 3D scan of the wearer’s truncated limb for fit, and a 3D scan of the intact limb for form. The minimal-materials and 3D printed form produces an artificial leg thats extremely strong and conveniently light.
The inspiration behind Roots’ project was he noted that in the United States alone there are over 2 million amputees that are suffering with limited mobility. Prosthetic legs help to gain an amputee’s mobility and freedom back and now with his new 3D creation, helps more people to afford them.
