A Brooklyn teacher has been accused of using social media to befriend hundreds of children, having sexually explicit conversations with at least 45 of the victims and convincing four of them to send him sexually explicit photos.

Jonathan Deutsch, 34, an English teacher at Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences in Manhattan Beach, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a child. According to the Daily News, Deutsch targeted his victims on Facebook, using the platform to “solicit and receive sexually explicit material from minors.”

“The protection of innocent children is an utmost priority for this office and our law enforcement partners,” United States Attorney Richard Donoghue told the news. “We will continue to make every effort to ensure that those who contribute to the exploitation and victimization of children will be brought to justice.”

Prosecutors say that Deutsch would instruct the children to send him videos and photos performing sexually explicit acts and in return, he would send the victims sexual photos that he claimed to be of himself. He received photos from three girls and one boy—the youngest being 10-years-old.

According to court documents, Deutsch used the names “Sam Morgan” and “Jay Stern.” The documents also contained disturbing details of the conversations the teacher would have with the young victims. In one instance Deutsch instructed a 16-year-old girl to “drink her own urine,” according to Daily Mail.

Deutsch, who pleaded “not guilty” in Brooklyn federal court, is being held without bail. If convicted of any of the five counts of sexual exploitation of a child, Deutsch faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison.

The high school Deutsch is currently employed is looking to terminate him as soon as legally possible.
