A Special Notorious B.I.G Mural Headed To Clinton Hill

Its been a long 18 years since the death of legendary Brooklyn rapper, the Notorious B.I.G and one local street artist wants to pay homage to the icon.

Danielle Mastrion, known for her jaw dropping murals around New York City of notables like Maya Angelou and The Beastie Boys has taken on the challenge of creating Biggie’s latest piece. Mastrion, hasn’t fully decided whether she will paint the rapper as a child on the steps of his former Clinton Hill home or simply as a shadow watching over the neighborhood. Although she hasn’t figured the exact details of the piece, the painting is set to be down at the local KeyFood supermarket on 991 Fulton Street, where Biggie previously worked as a child bagging groceries (who knew?).

The mural will be iconic for the Clinton Hill neighborhood in many ways. Biggie, born Christopher Wallace, grew up on the corner of St.James Place and Fulton and Mastrion wanted to make sure the mural stuck to the rappers roots. The mural is being organized this spring by LeRoy McCarthy, the man behind the fight for St. James Place to be renamed as Christopher Wallace Way. Since we can’t have the renaming (just yet) the symbolic mural will definitely do.
