There is a 50 year old naval ship parked at Pier 5 of Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Baylander IX-514 is offering FREE weekend tours from now until Labor Day.
The tour will highlight the dynamic history of the ancient ship as well as the construction of Brooklyn Bridge Park Marina. The 131 foot vessel was first used as a landing pad in Vietnam in 1968 and later used to train U.S. helicopter pilots. The ship has seen around 120,000 successful landings in the last 16 years.
“The Marina is a centerpiece of the park master plan,” said Regina Myer, President of Brooklyn Bridge Park. “Our selection of Edgewater Resources as the developer/operator of the Marina was based not only on their outstanding design, but also their commitment to a robust community boating program. We are so excited to have the Baylander at Brooklyn Bridge Park to assist in achieving this goal of getting the community out on the water.”
