A Look Back On The Brooklyn Nets 2013-14 Season

What a season it has been for the Brooklyn Nets. Many didn’t think they would even make it this far. With a brand new coach, Jason Kidd and a slew of new players including Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Mason Plumlee, and Marcus Thorton amongst others, made this Brooklyn season a quite memorable one. Last night the Nets played their final playoff game against the Miami Heat. Although Brooklyn came out to play and gave their all, they weren’t able to sustain their eight point lead to take the series to a game 6. The Nets fell to Miami 94-96.

All in All the Brooklyn Nets had an amazing season and went much further than expected. Lets take a quick review of the team’s 2013-14 season.

June 12: Former (New Jersey) Nets & New York Knicks player, Jason Kidd was hired as the new head coach of the team.
June 27: The 2013 NBA draft took place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York The Nets chose Duke’s Mason Plumlee with the 22nd pick.
July 11: Andray Blatche signed a two-year deal. Shaun Livingston also signed with the Nets.
July 12: Nets finalize a trade to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry, and D. J. White from the Boston Celtics in exchange for 3 first round draft picks, Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Marshon Brooks and Keith Bogans. Andrei Kirilenko signed with the Nets.
July 18: D. J. White’s contract with the Nets is waived.
July 30: Alan Anderson signed with the Nets.
October 18: Adonis Thomas signed with the Nets’ training camp.
January 21: The Nets traded Tornike Shengelia to the Chicago Bulls for Marquis Teague.
February 19: The Nets traded Reggie Evans and Jason Terry to the Sacramento Kings for Marcus Thornton.
February 23: Jason Collins signed a 10-day contract.
March 5: Jason Collins signed a second 10-day contract.
March 6: Jorge Gutierrez signed a 10-day contract.

May 14: The Nets’ season ended following a 94–96 loss in Game 5 of the Conference Semifinals against the Miami Heat.

While the season started off pretty slow with only 10–21 by December 31, the Nets managed to turn it around quickly by the second half of the regular season. Brooklyn can only imagine what this team will do for us next season. While we didn’t manage to see a Game 6 back in Brooklyn, we have lots of time to work out all the kinks!
