Hot 97’s Summer Jam, powered by Nutrament, Power, a Starz original series, Effen Vodka, and McDonald’s, is undoubtedly one of music’s hottest events of the summer and gets bigger and bigger every year. Going down at Met life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, this year’s event will present some of hip-hop and R&B’s biggest stars, and a few of the industry’s musicians on the rise.

If you’ve ever attended Summer Jam in the past, then you know the concert is full of surprises and show-stopping moments. For a bit of insight and behind the scenes access on the summer festival, we caught up with Hot 97’s own, Megan Ryte for a little girl chat.

“Summer Jam is about the music and the culture, said Ryte. “When artist perform [at Summer Jam] they are doing it for the culture. I want fans to leave knowing that it is not just a show but a lifestyle.”

Megan Ryte, the midday host of Hot 97, has been working at the New York-based radio station for two years but has been following Summer Jam long before that. Ryte is no stranger to the surprises that have taken place at previous concerts but still has her star-struck moments.

Back in 2015, while backstage, Ryte recalls when Fabolous was performing his set and instantly became starstruck when Brooklyn rapper, Lil’ Kim walked past her before joining Fabolous and Mobb Deep on stage.

“Oh S***, is this really happening? that’s Lil’ Kim,” said Ryte.

In continuing the conversation with Ryte, she offered some important tips for concert goers planning on attending.

“Bring a portable charger and dress suitable for the weather,” she stressed.

For the past couple of years it has rained during the show, but as we all know — the show goes on. Although this year it’s expected to be a beautiful 81 degree day, be prepared for anything.

While Ryte couldn’t comment on any of the surprises that are sure to go down at Summer Jam, she hopes DJ Khaled brings his extremely adorable son, Asad, to make an appearance. She’s also very excited for Faith Evans “20 Years of B.I.G” set and expects that to be one of the major show stopping moments.

“Biggie is such a legend and I’m super excited Faith Evans chose Summer Jam to present such a tribute,” she said.
