As the countdown is on to a Donald Trump America, many politicians that have pulled out of attending Trump’s controversial presidential inauguration on Friday, January 20.
Rep. Yvette Clarke, whose district includes Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Flatbush and Ditmas Park, became the latest to break tradition by joining a strong New York list of politicians that plan to boycott the historic event.

“I will NOT attend the inauguration of @realDonaldTrump,” Clarke tweeted on Saturday. “When you insult @RepJohnLewis, you insult America.”
The congresswoman plans to hold a community event in Brooklyn on Friday, though its time and location have not yet been announced.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, whose district includes Red Hook, Sunset Park, Kensington and Borough Park and Rep. Nydia Velázquez, whose district includes Williamsburg, Bushwick, Gowanus, Red Hook and Sunset Park, have also decided to boycott the inauguration.
“We cannot normalize Donald Trump, and we certainly cannot turn our heads and ignore such a threat to the institutions and values of our democracy. His refusal to adequately address his business conflicts of interest, to show remorse for the inflammatory rhetoric in which he engaged during his campaign, his attempts to intimidate the press, and his continuing failure to demonstrate any interest in uniting Americans reveal a deep disrespect for the office of President,” Nadler said in a statement. “I refuse to sit idly by as he flaunts his illicit behavior without regard for the American people’s interest.

Velázquez tweeted her disinterest in the day, but will be part of the planned “Women’s March on Washington.”
