20 Brooklyn Homes Whose Exterior Will Leave You Mesmerized

Brooklyn, New York is probably the last on anyones list of having homes other than the generic brownstone or townhouse. It may come to a surprise but Brooklyn has a slew of breathtaking mansions and houses that are architecturally genius that would leave many mesmerized. Prices could be a bit elevated but there isn’t any harm in just looking and dreaming…right?

We managed to gather 20 of our favorite exterior Brooklyn homes that are Iphone (ok, or Android) camera worthy.

Awkwaaba Mansion

347 MacDonough Street, Bedford-Stuyvesant
Built in the 1860’s.
Currently being used as a Bed and Breakfast.

1019 Bushwick Avenue Mansion

Considered to be the “turn-of-the-century” mansion in Bushwick with a beautiful rotunda and exquisite porch.

457 Ovington Avenue

It’s a one of a kind free-stander in Bayridge.
Built with a Spanish architectural influence.

The Gingerbread House

8200 Narrows Avenue, Bay Ridge
One of the most popular houses in Brooklyn. It’s known for being the house plucked out of a fairytale.

Saitta House

1135 84th Street, Dyker Heights
Known as one of the wonders of Dyker Heights.
Built by the same architect who built the “Japanese House”.
It holds most of its original character and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Japanese House

131 Buckingham Road, Prospect Park South
One of the most famous and most noticed houses in Prospect Park South.
It has two very unique features to it: one being the vibrant orange and green colors and the second is the Japanese style garden.

839 St. Marks Avenue

Called “one of the crown jewels of Crown Heights North,” many people fall in love at first sight mostly because of the Gothic stone, size and stature of the house.

317 Rugby Road

This Victorian located in Ditmas Park, is known for its bright paint and multi-colored exterior.
It is now occupied as a Bed and Breakfast and it is noted as one of the best place for tourists to enjoy their stay.

247 Hancock Street

This mansion located in Bed-Stuy, goes by two names: the Grand Dame or the Kelly Mansion.
This house was built in the same fashion as the W.H. Vanderbilt homes on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

The DollHouse

Prospect Park South, located 143 Buckingham Road.
Filled with antiques with a whimsical Disney classic vibe.
This Victorian Mansion was built in 1906.

8381 Shore Road

Built in 1991, this house is equipped with five bedrooms, exceptional views of the ocean all year round and a private in ground pool in Bayridge.

212 Columbia Heights

The Renaissance Revival White Townhouses were built in 1860 in Brooklyn Heights.
Although they were built as a pair, 212 and 214 were sold separately.
The home set two neighborhood records; 1st in 2005 for selling for $8.5 million and again in 2012 selling for $11 million.

309 Clinton Avenue

Located at the highest points of Brooklyn.
Equipped with 6 bedrooms and 3 bath.
Built in 1922, this neo-Georgian style home is a Landmark Designated Townhouse according to the Clinton Hill Historic District New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

13 Pineapple Street

This 1829 Brooklyn Heights classic gray shingled frame house is a part of 600 pre-Civil War buildings.
It’s the second oldest house in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, right behind 24 Middagh.

The Brooklyn Mansion

Located at 1001 Bushwick Avenue, this gorgeous Queen Anne styled mansion is used as an New York Getaway for residents and tourists.
Guests stay on the third floor suite equipped with a dining room, full kitchen, two bedrooms with huge windows and many more amenities.

70 Willow Street

This cute little house in Brooklyn Heights is one of the brightest in the neighborhood; displaying a yellow exterior.
For 10 years, famed author and director Truman Capote, called this place home and wrote the classic film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

31 Pineapple Street

This Brooklyn Heights home was built as an old fire stable back in 1890.
Around 1920, it was converted into a residence and is one of the most stand-out houses in the neighborhood.

2 and 3 Pierrepont Place

This twin set is said to be “the most elegant brownstone mansions in New York City” by the AIA.
The homes were built in 1857 with another mansion that was torn away in 1946 and replaced with a children’s playground.
