Out with the old, in with the new seems to be the story of Brooklyn’s recent times.

The Pavilion, Park Slope’s sole movie house, is closing down at the end of October to be updated and transformed into Nitehawk Cinema’s second Brooklyn location. The neighborhood theater opened in 1996 after the space stood unused for over a decade when the Sanders Theater, which opened in 1928, shut down in 1978.

The new theater said to be called  Nitehawk Prospect Park, will take after its flagship location in Williamsburg and offer a full menu to encompass the complete in-theater dining theme. The theater is planned to build seven screen cinema with a total of 650 seats, a double kitchen, two bar areas and a restored atrium overlooking the park, according to the NY Times.

“We’ve always wanted to do more locations,” Matthew Viragh, Nitehawk Cinema’s founder, told the Times. “Our focus is Brooklyn; we want to be a neighborhood cinema. That’s in our DNA, to cater to this area.”
