What an atmosphere it was inside Barclays Center as fans of each team battled it out, just as their teams did so on the court. Tonight was part two of the “Battle of the Boroughs,” as the Brooklyn Nets hosted the New York Knicks. Both teams are picking up wins and trying to revive the city. Would the Nets take a commanding lead or would the Knicks even the series at 1 apiece?
1st quarter saw the Nets really continue their offensive and defensive prowess. Garnett had it going early and the Nets held a double digit lead, 23-12. Knicks started to play defensive and tried to cut the lead to single digits. Knicks cut the lead to 8, 29-21 as Knicks’ star, Carmelo Anthony, missed the buzzer beater.
2nd quarter action started off with a Lopez block followed by a Lopez shot on the other end. Nets built back the double digit lead to 10. Knicks could just not get it going missing shots and having shot clock violations. 36-23 Nets. As the Nets continued to build the Knicks hopes dwindled. Knicks found some life and cut the lead to 9, 42-33. Knicks continued the fight cutting the lead to 4 on a Carmelo and 1 shot as the Knicks continued to slump at the end of the quarter. Garnett had a huge block on Carmelo that translated into two free throws from Bogdanovic. Nets built back their double digit lead, thanks to consecutive buckets by Garnett. Carmelo seemed to be the only one with the offensive touch. Brook Lopez tried to get the last shot off but missed the buzzer beater to end the 1st half at 53-45, Nets.
2nd half action started off with the Knicks hitting a number of 3s to cut the lead to 6, 57-51. Knicks then cut the lead to 4 but Brook Lopez stopped the bleeding with a floater, 61-55. Knicks cut it to two but Jarrett Jack hits a jumper and gets the foul shot to go, 64-59 Nets. Knicks continue to fight and manage to tie the game at 64. Knicks take the lead with 2:45 remaining in the 3rd until the Nets tie it up again at 66. It was tit for tat back and forth action as the 3rd winded down but the Knicks would go into the 4th with a 2 point advantage, 70-68 Knicks.
Joe Johnson takes a 3-point shot to open up the fourth. Knicks hit a 3-pointer of their own and go up by 2, 75-73. Bogdanovic ties it up and Joe Johnson regains the lead with a jumper, 77-75 Nets. Nets build their lead to 6, 83-77 thanks to some great looking shots. Knicks would storm back and cut the lead to 1, 83-82 on a Knick 3 pointer. Both teams went at it and kept a one point advantage until Jarrett Jack hit a big time clutch 3-pointer that ultimately sank the Knicks. Momma get the thermometer because your boy is hot!
Final score 92-88, Nets. The teams now third straight win.
