From a Brooklyn middle school hallway to the runways of New York Fashion Week is the story for one 24-year-old public school teacher who also doubles as a high-fashion model.
Sam Pearce, from Milton, Massachusetts traveled to New York for a career in education. Upon arriving to the city, Pearce landed a job in one of Brooklyn’s public schools as an eighth grade English teacher. According to Daily Mail, just a few months after landing his teaching job, the handsome Brown University graduate was ‘discovered’ on the subway by another model, who promptly asked whether he could send Mr. Pearce’s picture to his own modeling agency in the hopes of getting him signed. “I was taken aback and flattered, but also kind of incredulous,” Pearce told Racked of the encounter on the F train. “He was just like, “Hey, you’re a model, right?” I said, “Noooo, I’m a teacher, dude.”‘
Not too long after, the english teacher, earning around $45K , signed a modeling contract with RED NYC and quickly began walking in fashion shows in London and Milan under the name Sam Worthen. Worthen being his mother’s maiden name. Pearce has walked for the likes of DNKY, Diesel and Alexander McQueen and recently walked in New York Fashion Week this past February while his Brooklyn school was closed for winter break.
