Well if this isn’t a wee bit surprising! What once were the New Jersey Nets are now the Brooklyn Nets and it seems as though their fans are still living in New Jersey. Recently the NY Times constructed a survey on NBA Fans and where they lived. The survey was based off of Facebook likes. Since I and many people I know don’t have Facebook, we weren’t in the mass pool! The map is broken down by zip code. The Nets are popular in only a few zip codes with-in Brooklyn. Go Figure!
There are seven zip codes near Barclays Center including Bedford-Stuyvesant and the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, to the southeast that make up the residency of Nets fans. The most popular zip code manages to be 11215, which is in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. The number breakdown for 11215 consist of 26 percent Nets fans, 21 percent Knicks fan and eight percent Lakers fans.
Which team makes up the highest percentage of fans in Brooklyn? According to this map the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. Quite interesting to say the least. Being that this survey was only open to the Facebook population and the “Brooklyn” Nets still being a pretty new team, i say that those numbers will change in the next year or so. If the Brooklyn Nets could manage to beat the Heat in this series those numbers would change instantly.
