Congratulations are in order for Brooklyn born, Isaiah Whitehead. The Seton Hall College freshman was named BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year!
The 2014 McDonald’s All-American, Whitehead becomes the first Seton Hall Pirate to receive the preseason Rookie of the Year honor since Eddie Griffin back prior to the 2000-01 season. According to the Pirate’s website, Whitehead becomes only the fourth Seton Hall player to win the preseason award joining the aforementioned Griffin, Luther Wright (1991-92) and Terry Dehere (1989-90). Named Mr. New York Basketball by the state’s Basketball Coaches Association in 2014, Whitehead is a five-star recruit rated #10 overall in the Class of 2014 by 247sports.com and the #2 shooting guard according to ESPN.com. A four year All-City honoree at Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, he’s the highest rated New York City recruit since 2009.
Earlier this year, Whitehead was chosen to play in the Jordan Classic at Barclays Center but had to pull out due to injury.
