Out with the old, in with the new. The city is moving forward in converting part of the iconic Riegelmann Boardwalk on Coney Island, from wooden planks to concrete, according to the DailyNews. State funding has been obtained to resume the work that start back when former Mayor Bloomberg was in office.
Although the city says to move forward with the work, many officials seem to be highly enraged that the popular Coney Island is being changed after so many years and want the city to reassess their decision. “We are extremely disappointed,” City Councilmen Chaim Deutsch and Mark Treyger said in a joint statement.

Parks Department workers are defending the conversion of the 2.5-mile boardwalk, which runs from W. 37th St. in Sea Gate to Brighton 14th St, stating that the project will extend the life of the 91-year-old boardwalk.
