YouTube is home to a few of our favorite people and has given some undiscovered talents a platform to be seen in all parts of the world. All you really need is a camera, good, lighting, and some editing skills.
One Brooklyn resident has taken advantage of YouTube and put his talents on full display. Gary Spielberg, a recent Brooklyn College Film School graduate, best known for his character “Baba Fira the Russian Grandma” in his online comedy series. “Baba-Fira” happens to be a very common name in the Russo-Jewish community. If you’re wondering why the Russian influence, he migrated from Kharkov, Ukraine with his family to Sheepshead Bay (also known as the largest Russian immigrant enclave in New York) and used that as an inspiration for his character.
According to Brooklyn News 12, “He performs all of his skits in Brighton Beach at his real grandmother’s condominium.”
