The new exhibit slated to hit the museum on July 10, will journey guest through the evolution of sneaker culture. “The Rise of Sneaker Culture is the first exhibition to explore the complex social history and cultural significance of the footwear now worn by billions of people throughout the world,” according to the Brooklyn Museum website.
The exhibit will display approximately 150 pairs sneakers from the archives of Adidas, Nike, Converse, Puma and Reebok. The exhibit will also include the likes of private collectors such as hip-hop legend Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, sneaker guru Bobbito Garcia, and Dee Wells of Obsessive Sneaker Disorder and a small collection from high-end brands like PRADA.

Amongst the wide display of the freshest kicks, the sneaker exhibit will include film footage, interactive media, photographic images, and design drawings that will take sneakerheads through years of fashion trends, marketing campaigns and social history.
