What is in this Brooklyn water? Well whatever it is, people from, born or residing in Brooklyn are winning everywhere! The chess team from Edward R. Murrow High School took home the state championship on Sunday. The team consist of 14 people, a mix of boys and girls. This happens to be the 17th state championship for them!
The coach, Eliot Weiss, sees a bright future with the team as they head to the National Tournament, next month, that they previously won last year. According to the NY Daily News, Alex Paredes, a 17 year old on the team stated,
“Our school was very confident in ourselves. All of our players are strong, and we knew we could do it. I believe our team can win first. I’m not doubting us,” he said of the upcoming national championship in San Diego. “We’re like a family. We all work together and we all motivate each other.”
