For the first time ever Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) will offer extended evening hours during the spring.

Every Tuesday during April and May, visitors may purchase a Garden After Hours ticket ($20), enter at any time, and stay up till 8:30 p.m. Regular admissions visitors will be required to leave by 6 p.m. This all happens just in time for cherry blossom season.

BBG’s cherry blossom festival, Sakura Matsuri, the legendary annual event dubbed New York City’s rite of spring, returns for its 37th year on Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29. The festival will feature musical performances, dance showcases, a fashion show, Japanese inspired arts and games, and a special cultural market.

Admission to Sakura Matsuri is $30 for adults and $25 for students (ages 12 to 17) and seniors (age 65 and over) with ID. Garden members and children under 12 years of age enter for free. Events are free with festival admission and will be held rain or shine.

The garden has also updated their free hours policy. Instead of offering free admission on Saturday mornings and Tuesdays, BBG now offers four free hours on Friday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon.
