World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) SummerSlam is back and better than ever. The McMahon family have been working continuously to improve the unique entertainment business they created and for the first time in eight years — SummerSlam is headed back to the Tri-state area.
SummerSlam is WWE’s second largest pay-per-view event of the season — slightly under WrestleMania and on August 23rd, the highly anticipated event will be live at Barclay’s Center arena. In anticipation of the epic four hour event, WWE superstars can be spotted around the city in some of the most fan-filled events like Answer The Call, where WWE stars and pro-athletes join together to benefit the New York Police and Fire Widows Children’s Fund.
During the heartwarming event, OurBKSocial had a chance to witness the superstars salute some of New York’s hometown heroes of the FDNY and NYPD and of-course catch up and chat about SummerSlam taking over the borough.
“It’s exciting to see WWE take over Brooklyn and how much the East Coast loves the WWE” stated WWE Diva, Summer Rae.
“Coming back to Brooklyn is like a homecoming for me and I’ll be bringing the biggest fight of the night,” WWE Superstar, Roman Reigns – The Powerhouse told us.
This year’s SummerSlam anticipation level has reached new heights and we have counted down the reasons you should be getting pumped for the biggest Brooklyn weekend of the summer:
9. Meet and Greets with current superstars and Hall-of-Famers
If you ever dreamed of meeting your favorite WWE Superstar and Diva, your dreams could come true this weekend. This Saturday be a part of the biggest meet and greet experiences that WWE will bring to Brooklyn. Get autographs and selfies from Hall of Famers Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Legendary Sting along with current superstars like Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Paige, Dean Ambrose and of-course, WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. All meet and greets will take place at the 40/40 club inside the Barclay’s Center at 10:00 a.m.
8. Winner Take All Match – Champion vs. Champion
WWE Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins is the most undeserving champion in WWE history, while the United States Champion, John Cena is the true definition of champion. After Rollins broke John Cena’s nose and then bragged it about, the WWE universe agreed with Cena, that Rollins is nothing but a coward and isn’t fit to be champion of the WWE. While being out for three weeks, Cena made his grand return to sign a contract for the “Winner Take All Match,” that will determine who the better Champion really is.
7. The Return of Ryback

Unable to defend the Intercontinental Championship against the Big Show and The Miz due to a staph infection in his leg at Battleground, Ryback’s return to SummerSlam will be HUGE. And we all know (at least the fans do) when the Big Guy comes back, he’s coming back hungry!
6. Sheamus Cashing In Contract
Sheamus won the “Money in the Bank” contract about two months ago and fans are wondering when he would cash it in to get his shot at the coveted WWE Championship. Although cashing it in at SummerSlam is cliché, it is expected of Sheamus because of his role as the heel (bad guy).
5. Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler
After being put out of commission by Rusev, Dolph Ziggler returned to action on Monday Night Raw to lend a hand for his girlfriend, Lana. This is good for the WWE universe and Lana but not so good for Rusev because Ziggler has come back to settle some unfinished business.
4. NXT Brooklyn Takeover
NXT has been taking the nation by storm and Brooklyn will be a new beginning of a new NXT era. This Saturday, the Barclay’s Center will hold NXT Takeover Brooklyn, where fans will get an up-close and personal chance to witness their beloved superstars in action and 90-minutes of non-stop excitement. Viewers will get a chance to witness Kevin Owens and current NXT Champion, Finn Balor battle it out in a brutal Championship Ladder Match. They will also have the opportunity to see the current NXT Diva’s Champion, The Boss Sasha Banks, defend her title against Bayley and catch an epic fatal four between Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Emma and Dana Brooke. Something no WWE fan should miss.
3. The Diva’s Revolution: Triple Threat 6 Man Tag Match
For months, The Bella Twins have been dominating the Diva’s Division, and intimidating the other divas in the process. Now with the help of Alicia Foxx, the Bella Twins have gotten a lot stronger. Fed up with the antics of Team Bella — Chair Principal Owner, Stephanie McMahon started a revolution by introducing three key Diva’s from the NXT division Becky Lynch, Charlotte to join Team Paige and the NXT Women’s Champion Sascha Banks to join the team of Naomi and Tamina to fight against Team Bella. This Sunday, will host their first fight ever. May the best team win!
2. Family vs. Family: Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper
Number one rule when it comes to Roman Reigns: Don’t Mess With His Family! Sadly, that line was crossed when Bray Wyatt decided to get into the head of Reigns and target his family. Dating back to this past Battleground, the Wyatt and Reigns feud has been relentless and never ending. Lets see where this Sunday takes us.
1. Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar: “The Rematch” – 16 months in the making
It has been over 400 days since The Beast Brock Lesnar shocked fans by conquering The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30; making the Deadman’s new streak 21 and 1. Returning, for the first time since then to Monday Night Raw, the Undertaker made his presence known and he is back with a vengeance and totally after Brock Lesnar. For those who know what The Undertaker is capable of, Lesnar needs to watch his back. This match is long overdue and will have every WWE fan at the edge of their seats. This is going to be one bone chilling match.
