Well, winter break is coming to close as spring semesters across Brooklyn commence. Goodbye sleep-in mornings that lead to days of either work, recreational reading, craft perfecting (or all three) and hello double work days. If you didn’t know or need a reminder — college is a job. Hello senior thesis’s, group projects, a professor that may influence your life and caffeine pick-me-ups. The spring 2016 semester has arrived!
Being a college student, I resonate with our millennial readers strongly on this point but this advice can be used across all borders. Life’s lessons aren’t restricted to isolated occasions. Yes, some lessons may vary but allowing that idea to manifest will only limit your growth. Feel free to take what you must from this post, but this one’s for the college students! These are words of encouragement for my peers known and unknown.
We’re one step closer.

Preconceived notions taint our actions more than we allow ourselves to believe, so let’s switch the energy. I challenge us to enter spring semester with an open mind, that uses optimism as a tool, to sketch the blueprint that only results in success. I challenge us to build relationships with our professors. Allow them to see ourselves in our purest form, exposing our potentials, so they may encourage growth across intellectual borders. I challenge us to believe the key to a successful semester is in the ability to be prepared and using this as a vehicle to hold our professors accountable. (In a positive light of course.) Lastly, I challenge us to always put our best foot forward by making our presence known. Network through departments, amongst our peers, professors, deans, etc. The right connections will point us in the right direction for life post-graduation.
Congratulations to all graduating in May! And to the remaining students with time left, this move with purpose!
Here’s to spring semester 2016. We’re ready.
