If you’re looking for ‘affordable housing’ in Brooklyn, you might want to look into Sheepshead Bay. According to a new report shared by the NY Post, the average rental for the Brooklyn neighborhood averaged to $1,729/mo.
“Sheepshead Bay is less expensive than most Brooklyn neighborhoods because the commute by subway [B and Q trains] to Manhattan is up to an hour” Jonathan Miller, who prepares market reports for real estate company Douglas Elliman, told the Post.
The southern Brooklyn neighborhood is still a prevalent Eastern European — mainly Russian — but has most recently become more diverse as young people move in.
Flatbush and Sunset Park are also priced in under the borough’s average, with rent prices averaging around $1,796 and $1,977 a month, respectively in September. Brooklyn rents now average nearly $3,200/mo., almost as high as Manhattan.
