The NBA is pulling out all the stops as it readies for All-Star weekend NYC in February.
The NBA along with New York Road Runners announced that they are partnering for the first ever All-Star Relay at the NYC Marathon. Twenty-four pairings that include NBA and WNBA stars along with NYRR’s youth running programs will run legs of the 26.2-mile route that begins in Staten Island and goes through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx before finishing in Central Park.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver, is set to run the opening leg of the marathon over the Verrazano Bridge and into Brooklyn to then pass the baton to Brooklyn native and NBA Hall-of-Fame inductee, Chris Mullin. Dikembe Mutombo, former NBA center and current global ambassador for the league, will run the last leg. Other participants include Brooklyn Nets center Jason Collins, former New York Knicks players Alan Houston and Charles Oakley and more.
